Photo Diary // Japan (Part 2)

Last week I wrote about some of the highlights of my first trip to Japan (check out the post here!) and I have more to share. There are so many wonderful thing to do, see and experience in Japan and I feel like I barely scraped the surface of what’s on offer. I can definitely see a trip (or two!) back to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’.

Osaka City

Visiting Abeno Haruka’s observation deck wasn’t part of our original plan when visiting Osaka but I’m so glad we did! The observation deck is on the 60th story and you can experience 360° panoramic views of the Osaka Plain. Coming from tiny ol’ Perth, it was a bit mind blowing to see how far the city sprawled out.

Hogwarts at Universal Osaka

I am unashamedly a giant Harry Potter fan, so it’s easy to say that visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios was one of the highlights of my trip. Sipping on butterbeer while wandering around Hogsmead is a dream come true! The amount of detail that was put into the rides and surround areas was truly impressive.

Wild deer on Miyajima Island

We spent the night at Itsukushima (more commonly known as Miyajima Island) which allowed us to take a night time tour and get up close and personal with the lit up floating torii. Although I wouldn’t say it at the time, my favourite thing about the island was the wild deer walking around without a care in the world. I’ll admit I wasn’t too keen at first especially when they sneak up behind you, intent on stealing your lunch!

Otters at the Osaka Aquarium

The Osaka Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world and houses over 400 different species of marine life. Our main reason for visiting the aquarium is this little guy right here! Otters are one of my friends’ favourite animals and we couldn’t miss the opportunity to see them up close.

Osaka Castle

This is Osaka Castle. If anything were to inspire me to get get fitter, climbing eight flight of stairs would be it. Each level was part of the Osaka Castle Museum and showcased different displays on the history of the castle, as well as some well known historical figures plus I got see authentic samurai armour!

Hedgehogs at the Harry Zoo Cafe

Guess who went to a hedgehog cafe? These little guys were adorable!

Otters at the Harry Zoo Cafe

Guess who went to a hedgehog cafe that also had otters, chinchillas and rabbits?

Tokyo Disneysea

Disneyland really is the happiest place on earth but in this case it was Tokyo Disneysea! Just like Universal Studios in Osaka, the detail that goes into the rides and surrounding areas is amazing. The day we spent here was a little dreary and it did rain a couple of times but it was all worth it, think 5 minute lines for rides that can have you waiting for over an hour!

And there you have it! Part 2 of the highlights of my Japan holiday. There was so many other great things I experienced but at the same time I felt like I barely scratched the surface of “Japan”. I definitely can see a second trip in the future!

Have you ever been to Japan? What were your favourite experiences?
